Janice Bierley Montgomery wrote on 7 March 2014: My father was the surgeon aboard the AO-59. The last surviving officer, he passed away August 23, 2013, five days after his 105th birthday, which he enjoyed with daughters, grandchildren and some great grandchildren. His remains will be interred along with those of his beloved wife in Arlington National Cemetery. Thank you, Mike Mair, for telling the story of the ship and all its fine crew.
