William Aimetti, son of USS Mississinewa sailor Angelo Aimetti, S2c, shared his dads photo recently and it's been added to the individual crewmen's photos page.

Angelo was a plank owner on the Miss, having come aboard in the commissioning crew. Fortunately, Angelo was able to survive the sinking, though he did spend a great deal of time in the water after leaving the ship. Like so many other sailors, he didn't really talk about his time aboard the ship with his family.

Angelo volunteered for the Navy during the War, he was 35 years old, married , and lived with William's mom and his 2 year old sister. William was born just 21 days after the attack on the Miss.

The memory of those sailors who perished, particularly those who couldn't swim, haunted Angelo throughout his life. In spite of being greatly affected by the ordeal of the attack and subsequent sinking, Angelo was a great husband and father who worked as a waterproofer for over 40 years, never missing a day of work.  Returning from the war, Angelo and his family lived in a walk up garden apartment in Elmhurst, Queens before moving to a newly constructed ranch home in Long Island 8-years later. Angelo passed away in that home in 1990 at the age of 80.

Like the other Mississinewa sailors, we are thankful for their sacrifices and continue to remember them.
