Way back on August 8, 2014, Karen Spears of Owosso, Michigan wrote on our old Guestbook: My Grandfather, Lloyd Jay Kirby, was a survivor of the USS Mississinewa and he never really spoke to our family about what happened on that tragic day, except that it was the last day that he would ever go swimming! He was a quiet and gentle man and loved fishing and listening to baseball on the radio. His wife Pasha is now 93 yrs old and they have 6 children and a whole mess of grandchildren together. He passed in 1988 and he was a huge blessing to our family. I feel like I know him a little better and I have learned so much about what happened to him that day, thanks to websites like this one.
