Sadly, we just found out that the sailor whom we believe was the last living survivor of the USS Mississinewa sinking has passed away. George Huss, former RM3c aboard the AO-59 passed away in his hometown of Lakewood, New Jersey, on March 8, 2025. He had just turned 19-years old when the Miss was sunk.
His loss makes us remember the importance of keeping the story of the Mississinewa alive. We of the Mississinewa family offer our sincere condolences to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
